The use of disposable diapers starts spreading once a country’s gross domestic product per capita exceeds $3,000. Based on this assumption, the disposable diaper market in Asia will reach 65 billion units a year by 2020, roughly doubling from 2012. To seize the opportunity, Toray is looking to lift its production capacities in China, Indonesia and elsewhere for high-performance polypropylene long-fiber nonwoven fabrics that offer high levels of air permeability and flexibility.
