French dairy firm Danone has acquired YoCrunch, a US-based company which produces yogurt with crunchy toppings such as M&Ms and Oreo, for an undisclosed amount.

Established in 1985, YoCrunch is a leading producer of yogurts with mix-in toppings in the US market. It offers toppings packaged separately, in part through licensing agreements with leading national brands.

The company has net sales of $110m and has experienced steady double digit growth over the recent years.

With this deal, the company is seeking to take advantage of the growing demand for yogurt in the US and increase its product range. Danone noted that the acquisition will enable it to benefit from YoCrunch's unique expertise in compartmentalized packaging, developed in the company's plant in Naugatuck, Connecticut.

Currently, Danone offers yogurt in the US through brands such as Dannon, Activia, Stonyfield Farm and Danimals brands.
